Just got the good news - 62.5% book
tax on scientific & imported school printed materials has been cancelled. A lot of behind the scenes from
leading literary figures, library associations, Publishing Association of
Nigeria, University press, Riplington & Associates, Association of Private Educators
in Nigeria and a host of others working together.
Nigeria is a signatory to the UNESCO
1950 treaty Importation of Educational, Scientific & Cultural Materials -
basically no tariff on such materials, to enable the free flow of ideas and
cost shouldn't be an issue. The Finance ministry is now aware of the fact that
it is now a good time to pull out of such an agreement.
